The Power of the Pine
The Swiss Stone Pine (Zirbenkiefer or Pinus Cembra) belongs to the pine family and is a heartwood tree which is mainly to be found in the Alpine and Carpathian regions at altitudes of between 1,300 m and 2,800 m.
This species of pine can grow to a trunk diameter of up to 1.7 m and a height of up to 30 m. Its needles are bushy and soft. Its wood is highly resinous, soft and strong, and emits a pleasant fragrance. The trees have a lifespan of up to 300 years in which they have to withstand temperatures of up to -50 degrees.
Pine wood is used for furniture and its sawdust can be used as a stuffing for pillows. Its sap can be used to make a tasty alcoholic liquor which is known as "Zirbengeistschnaps".
Pine wood has a positive effect on the circulation, sleeping quality and vegetative regulation. Scientists at Joanneum Research have confirmed its ability to bring about a reduced heart rate and a superior night's sleep. The positive attributes of pine wood result in saving approximately 3,500 heartbeats per day, which is equivalent to one hour's work for the heart.
Pine has the best effect if it is positioned in your bedroom and near your bed.
